Amazon's digital assistant, Alexa, has remained silent today in an involuntary real-world reproduction of the company's Super Bowl ad. An interruption that affects Amazon's servers has led to Alexa not responding to Echo products and other devices that support the wizard; I just tried a simple query about the weather in the Echo Dot in my living room, and the signature blue ring remained lit for about 15 seconds without any response. A tone finally sounded, and Alexa said she had lost the connection.
All subsequent attempts have failed, producing a red ring accompanied by Alexa asking me to try again later. The Verge has contacted Amazon to get details on when its assistant, which is normally useful, could work again. It is likely that the problem is related to current problems with Amazon Web Services. Slack and other applications that rely on AWS as the backbone experienced downtime earlier in the day.
