Apple is presenting a new iPad today at its educational event in Chicago. Recently rumors of a new and cheaper iPad emerged, and Apple makes it official with a refreshed 9.7-inch iPad with Apple Pencil support.
Apple's vice president of product marketing, Greg Joswiak, revealed that there are 200,000 applications for education and that Apple's most popular iPad is the 9.7-inch model. Apple is trying to capitalize on these statistics with its new iPad that is compatible with Apple Pencil. Apple originally introduced its stylus almost two years ago, but it only worked on the more expensive iPad Pro model and sold separately at $ 99.

Apple demonstrated smart annotation, allowing teachers to mark reports directly in Pages, and the company promised new versions of its iWork applications such as Pages, Numbers and Keynote that are compatible with Apple Pencil. Teachers can also use Macs to create digital books for their classrooms, and Apple is creating a book creator in the Pages application.
The updated iPad will include Touch ID, an HD FaceTime camera, 10 hours of battery life, an 8 megapixel rear camera, LTE option and the Apple A10 Fusion chip.
