AT & T has expanded its "sponsored data" program to cover customers in their prepaid wireless plans, offering them the ability to stream content from select partners regardless of their data limit. The program was already available to postpaid customers, but now it seems to apply to most wireless AT & T users.
While the program is somewhat of a benefit to AT & T subscribers, the policy contradicts the basic principles of net neutrality. By offering some services for free and not others, AT & T provides a great advantage to these applications and companies, since their customers will be much more likely to use them than the competitors they would have to give up to use the data.
