The Vision Gran Turismo program is a simple and wonderful idea that generates striking concepts such as the clockwork mechanism. Car manufacturers design high-performance cars to be included in the Gran Turismo video game, and then, like Dr. Frankenstein, they succumb to the irresistible desire to bring their creations to life. Audi is now the latest automaker to bite with its new concept of e-tron Vision Gran Turismo.
The concept of e-tron does not look at all different from a modern GT racer, even if it's adorned with Audi's warm orange accents. But its performance specifications are something worth contemplating. Two 200kW engines on the rear axle and one on the front provide four-wheel drive and a total power of 600kW, which is roughly equivalent to 815 horsepower. The car weighs just over 3,000 pounds, which, combined with all that power, means it can get from 0 to 60 miles per hour in 2.4 seconds.
As one of the most important manufacturers competing in the all-electric Formula E racing series, Audi will make an appropriate debut with the e-tron Vision Gran Turismo in the race next weekend in Rome, Italy. Some visitors will have car rides down the track at other Formula E races in Europe, too.
Undoubtedly, the concept also aims to market Audi's next line of e-tron electric cars. Although they tend to have the kind of track performance that Audi teases with the version of Vision Great Tursimo, they will not be lazy, according to the concepts that Audi already has for each one.
