Facebook and Major League Baseball have reached an agreement that will give the social network exclusive rights to broadcast 25 games of regular season in 2018. All will be evening games during the week, so traditional television networks will keep their participation on schedule stellar and weekend. Even so, as Bloomberg points out, this is the first time that Facebook gets exclusive broadcasting rights for regular-season games from one of the major US sports leagues. UU The first Facebook game will be on April 4 between the Phillies and the Mets.
The visual experience will not feel out of the ordinary, since MLB Network will produce the games. Therefore, you will get the familiar presentation of the televised games, but you will be able to see them on mobile devices, desktop computers and on TVs through the Facebook application. Facebook also has the ability to integrate "social integration and graphics during transmission," according to Bloomberg.
The agreement will also allow MLB to produce featured packages for each regular season game in 2018 for Facebook Watch, and will also release weekly video summaries for each team. Facebook and Major League Baseball will update the month calendar of the games that will be streamed. Last year, Facebook broadcast 20 MLB games on its platform, but it did not have exclusivity in those games. It is said that the owners of the MLB team unanimously approved this last agreement.
