Facebook plans to send verification postcards through the US Postal Service. UU To anyone who buys ads related to the US elections, according to Reuters. The postcards will contain a special code that advertisers must provide to Facebook to show that they are in the United States.
This new verification system will be required for all advertising that mentions a specific candidate who applies for a federal office, such as the presidency. It will be implemented in time for the mid-term elections next November.
"If you post an ad mentioning a candidate, we'll send you a postcard in the mail and you'll have to use that code to prove you're in the United States," said Katie Harbath, global director of policy programs at Facebook. .
