Google Maps shortcuts are live for select users in India, according to user advice via Android Police. Specifically, the new feature reached version 9.72.2 of Google Maps.
You can select up to four shortcuts at a time from a selection of 14, such as nearby foods, shopping centers, subway stations, directions to get home and directions to work. By default, Maps selects three so you can start, with the ability to add one more or change the default options to something else. It is an expanded version of what you could previously add to the home screen by holding down the Google Maps icon and selecting a saved location for quick navigation. Now, you will see these shortcuts as you open the application for the search.
The extended function of shortcuts seems to be active only for some users in India. We communicate with Google to comment on the additional release and update it when we receive a response.
