Facebook has begun to notify up to 87 million people that their information was obtained incorrectly by Cambridge Analytica, but not all have yet received the notification. If you have not seen the message in your News Feed, there is a simple way to verify your account. The Facebook help center now has a section that tells you if you or a friend were affected, available here.
Affected users will be asked to change the settings of the application, but it is worth reviewing the list of Facebook applications you have to make sure you delete the ones you no longer need. However, Facebook is not notifying individual users of the identity of the friend who used the "This Is Your Digital Life" application.
Facebook is implementing changes in the platform to prevent other Facebook applications from returning data incorrectly in the future. The company is looking for "suspicious activity" from the developers to audit them, following the restriction changes of similar applications made in 2014. Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg will now testify before Congress this week to answer questions about the use of his company and the protection of user data.
