The next Tomb Raider game will be released this year. Square Enix has just announced Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the third game of the Tomb Raider franchise restarted in 2013, for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC, which will launch on September 14.
There's not much here in terms of information, just a movie trailer with some snapshots of the next game and what appears to be a jungle setting inspired by the Aztecs. But Square Enix promises a full disclosure next month on April 27, and with E3 around the corner in June, we'll surely see more there as well.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider follows Rise of the Tomb Raider 2015, and once again will see the franchise hero Lara Croft face the mysterious organization Trinity. Presumably, there will also be a supernatural mystery to discover, waves of thugs to shoot down with a variety of weapons and bows, and tombs to, uh, attack.

Unlike the first two games of the rebooted series, Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider, Edow Montreal is developing Shadow of the Tomb Raider (which had previously worked on Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided before that franchise was placed, according to reports, on hold). Crystal Dynamics, which created the first two modern Tomb Raider titles, is working on a game of Avengers in partnership with Marvel.
While Rise of the Tomb Raider was a timed Xbox exclusive, it only comes to PS4 and PC several months after its release on the Xbox One, Shadow of the Tomb Raider does not seem to have that restriction: it will be launched on all three platforms simultaneously. September 14.
