An Apple distributor in Malaysia had to cancel its store sale over the weekend after 11,000 people formed hours before the actual event to buy iPhones at a price as low as $ 50 USD. According to the announcement prior to the event, the retailer Switch sold its stock, which consisted mainly of demonstration products, including the models of iPhone 5S to 7, minis and pros of the iPad, Apple TVs, MacBooks, iMacs and iPod Touch. Only 10 units of the $ 50 iPhone 5S were available, and only one unit of each of the 16GB iPad Air 2 with Wi-Fi, 2011 64GB MacBook Air and a 24-inch iMac were available for $ 77, $ 128 and $ 255, respectively.
Enthusiastic buyers lined up at the mall at least 19 hours before the doors opened, although Switch indicated in his frequent questions that midnight lines will not be allowed. The lines extended from Switch's own showcase to the outside of the shopping center and to the parking lot, with multiple lines circulating around the complex. The retailer tried to hand out queue tickets to the first to arrive, but when Switch prepared to open its doors, the store quickly became overwhelmed by the massive crowd that showed up.

Before the event, Switch had published the price and the number of units available online, although it did not deter the crowds from returning after arriving at the mall to see thousands who had lined up before them. In total, Switch had just under 200 devices available for sale for the weekend event.
"For security reasons, [sic] we regret to inform you that the liquidation sale will be suspended until further notice," Switch wrote on his Facebook page. "We really felt for the demo approval event yesterday, we did not expect the magnitude, we were overwhelmed by the 11,000 [that] presented," he added in a separate publication.
Even though the retailer has offered to extend discounts on the new MacBooks and iPhone Xs, the coveted basement deals on iPhones and iMacs have run out.
