Netflix announced today that it has renewed Jessica Jones for the third season, approximately one month after the premiere of Season 2 of the series.
Although critics in general praised the Marvel series' debut season, many saw their second season as a second-year depression. "The first five episodes are marked by an oppressive hardness, with a precious little relief," wrote Samantha Nelson in her review for The Verge. Others said the show improved as the season progressed, however, Jones (Krysten Ritter) seemed more and more like a superhero by the end.
As The Hollywood Reporter points out, Disney recently finalized an agreement in 2012 with Netflix and removed all Marvel films from the platform as it prepares to launch its own broadcast service. The Marvel properties currently on Netflix include the Jessica Jones spin-off series Luke Cage, Daredevil, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders.
Netflix has yet to announce a release date for the third season of Jessica Jones.
