Qualcomm today announced a Wi-Fi chip for phones and tablets that is compatible with the next generation of Wi-Fi. The company says it is the first to offer 802.11ax features to manufacturers and the first to support WPA3 encryption, which protects passwords and user privacy.
The 802.11ax generation of Wi-Fi, which is supposed to begin to be adopted en masse next year, will offer higher network performance and use less power compared to the previous generation, 802.11ac. The new Qualcomm chip offers phone and computer manufacturers the option to start building technology on their new products. It's called Atheros WCN3998, and it's assumed that manufacturers should start having access in the coming months.
