Tesla's cloud account was pirated and used to extract cryptocurrencies, according to a security research firm. The hackers gained access to the Amazon cloud account of the electric car company, where they could see "confidential data" such as vehicle telemetry.
The investigators, who work for the cybersecurity company RedLock, discovered the breach last month while they were looking for an organization that would leave credentials to open an Amazon Web Services (AWS) account for the public Internet. The owner turned out to be Tesla.
"We addressed this vulnerability within a few hours of knowing it"
