Along with its new TV line 2018, Vizio has just announced three new sound bars with Dolby Atmos and Chromecast audio support.
Dolby Atmos, if you're not familiar, goes beyond the traditional surround sound mix by adding "objects" of sound that are placed in the 3D space of your home theater system according to the whims of a director.
Of course, you need content dominated by Atmos to enjoy this level of immersion, fortunately there is much more of that lately. You also need a Blu-ray player or a streamer that supports Atmos. So, it's not an Apple TV (yet).
But he also needs speakers, which is where Vizio comes in. Vizio, "the number 1 company in the United States sound bar", has three new sound systems compatible with Atmos to choose from:
46 inches 5.1.4
46 inches 3.1.2
36 inches 5.1.2.
What does 5.1.4 mean? Well, five means there is a central channel for voice, then left and right in the front, then left and right behind you. One means that there is a subwoofer channel. And the four are for the channels that shoot upwards that bounce the sound from their roof (the Atmos part). I will let you decipher the other two configurations as an exercise for the reader.
Like last year's models, Vizio's sound systems combine a sound bar with a wireless subwoofer, and if you connect them to the rear speakers, subwoofer.
Nothing is yet known about the price, but Vizio's latest flagship sound system was $ 500, so be prepared. Everything is supposed to start shipping later this summer.
