HBO has released a new full-length trailer for its upcoming adaptation of Ray Bradbury's novel Fahrenheit 451, which shows the hellish dystopian society of the world in which books are banned and burned.
The film will star Michael B. Jordan of Black Panther as Guy Montag, a fireman who comes to question his work, while Michael Shannon of Shape of Water plays Captain Beatty, the captain of his station. The director of 99 Houses, Ramin Bahrani, wrote and directed the film.
This trailer shows a little more of the world in which the book is located, where books are prohibited and the behavior of citizens is tightly regulated through pharmaceutical products. It opens with Montag showing a classroom full of children a couple of books while explaining what he and his colleagues do, and he says that when they grew up, "there will not be a book". But Montag begins to have doubts about his role as a book burner. His smart home tells him that it was a misconception that firefighters once extinguished fires, and his boss tells him that people are "equal by fire", and that when they are the same, they are happy.
Fahrenheit 451 opens on May 19.
