Luke Cage returns for season 2 on June 22. Netflix announced the news today with a 26-second preview, in which Cage reminds viewers that it can not be burned, blown or broken.
The first season of the series premiered in 2016, giving Cage, who first appeared as a character in season 1 of Jessica Jones, the center of attention as a hero defending the streets of Harlem. In the time since we last saw him, Luke Cage has become a local celebrity. "But being so visible has only increased their need to protect the community and find the limits of who can and can not save," says the description of the trailer. "With the emergence of a formidable new enemy, Luke is forced to face the thin line that separates a hero from a villain."
Luke Cage also appeared previously in The Defenders, the crossover miniseries Jessica Jones / Luke Cage / Daredevil / Iron Fist that came to Netflix last August. The second season of Jessica Jones is the first show to continue Netflix's Marvel career since the team miniseries; will debut on March 8. Iron Fist has also been renewed for a second season, with no established launch date, while season 3 of Daredevil is expected later this year. The Punisher spin-off series is also receiving a second season, which means that the Netflix Marvel race will continue for the foreseeable future, with the exception of The Defenders, that is. The broadcast service has not yet commented if fans can expect another chapter of collaboration.
